Running a fan with a portable ac in a room with high ceilings?

Hello our family room is about 260 sq ft with a ceiling that is 20ft high. Problem is our portable ac doesn't do a great job of cooling the room. We have a couple of spare oscillating fans sitting around. Where is the best place to put the fan(s)? We don't have a ceiling fan but we could add one if its the better option but I would still like to test it out with the oscillating fan.
