Sell! Sell! Sell!

As technicians working for a company, how much are you guys required to sell?

At my company if you arent producing enough leads, you are doing something wrong. Ive always managed to get a sale on equipment Ive condemned for safety issues or if the cost of parts/labour wasnt worth the repair, but I kind of struggle with just the "simple sale". Like for example if its heating and cooling fine, but its an old inefficient system, I will usually just get the line "can it last another year?", and I usually respond with "yes it will" because that is the truth. Yes it will probably last another season or two. Then thats where the sense of urgency dies, and the homeowner soon forgets about the box in the basment or around back.

I have never felt comfortable with bending the truth, and I know some of our top performers in sales go down that avenue. I also understand the lifeblood of a company falls on the back of getting sales, and if the numbers dont pour in, I dont have a job.

How do you guys manage this? There are customers who will pick up on advice alone and decide to upgrade, but they are few and far between. Just curious on how some of you guys manage this aspect of working in the industry as a tech.
