My current (possibly 30yr old) condenser up and died last night, and I’ve got 3 proposals—already—because I knew it was on the fritz. I’m looking online at all the specs, but since this is my first time buying a system, I’m not sure how to compare them beyond SEER and HSPF.
I’m also planning to move the new condenser for more peace and quiet and avoid restricting airflow (a new privacy fence between the units is going up this week). I want to move the new condenser over to the North side of the house…the lower pink square and dotted lines lead to the air handler in the 1st floor utility room. I've got two estimates in the same ballpark. One is on another planet.
PROPOSALS: The first is for a Trane 4TWR4024, with a ???? air handler and Honeywell 3000 thermostat. Estimate is $3800. Warranty is 10 years parts, 2 years labor, 10 compressor. They ask $425 to move the location of the condenser.
The second is for a Carrier Comfort 14, 25HCE4, with a FB4CNP air handler and Honeywell 6000 thermostat. Estimate is $5342. Warranty is 12 years parts and 1 year labor. They ask $1100 to move the location of the condenser.
The third is for a Carrier Comfort 14, 25HCE4, with a FB4CNP air handler and "digital thermostat." Estimate is $4356. Assuming warranty is the same as second estimate. They ask $300 to move the location of the condenser.
Also, what’s the difference between Multi-flow piston and Thermostatic expansion valve in the FX4D and FB4CNP? One’s more efficient, but they both cost one $ on the carrier site.
