So the power went out for about half an hour last week and when I got home I found the thermostat had reset to 85. I turned it down to 72 but several hours later it still hadn't reached 72. The breaker never tripped and the outside fan was running. I called the tech under our home warranty and he came out and said the capacitor was bad and replaced it. He also said that there was "Zero" freon and that there were several leaks on the evaporator coils in the attic ac unit. So now I'm being told it cant be fixed for another two weeks until they get the parts in and I have to pay $350 because they have two install two separate things to bring my 2 year old AC up to code which are not under the warranty. I don't know a lot about air conditioners, but why would my AC have been running super efficient to the point where it was freezing if I had it set to 69 at night if there was no freon in it? Does this seem like the HVAC company contracted by my home warranty is trying to milk as much money out of this as they can?
