Hi there,
I posted about this before looking for help when I first moved in, so I'm hoping I can get some deeper knowledge because my property manager is useless in assisting us and so far refusing a service to the unit.
I apologize in advance if my jargon or wording isn't correct, I know nothing about this system but my husband isn't the redditor in the family so here I am hah.
So, we were told by a few people geothermal works best on the Automatic setting, at a set temperature, and to just leave it to do it's thing. It should regulate quickly and we shouldn't have to worry.
Well, every time we've set it on auto, it is literally just freezing air conditioning all day AND night even if it's cold outside. Id have the temp set to 23 on the thermostat and it's still pumping cool air. We've never left it on auto for more than 48hrs as it was freezing us out.
And so we'd shut off the whole thermostat afterwards, or sometimes switch it to just the fan.
I then got a projected bill of over $300! We know the auto setting/air conditioning uses a lot of electricity but my God we can't pay that every two months and we also can't imagine that being right, we we're told geothermal is LESS expensive than regular heating and cooling. But thing is we don't want AC on all the time, it's just that it's doing that with the auto setting and we're at the end of our rope.
So I'm torn between still demanding a service call from the property manager, or chalking it up to us just not using the system properly/most efficiently because we have no idea.
Any advice is welcome!
