Hot house in Texas (x post from r/homeimprovement)

I bought a 1500 sq foot 3 br/ 2 Bath about 2 years ago. One story, attic storage space over the garage. The home is 30 years old, original windows for sure, more than likely original insulation.

I had the a/c checked out last summer and they stated my unit was the smallest possible unit that would work for a home of our size (can't remember the SEER rating, but it was 14 or so I believe). I had them clean the coils and refill the coolant. They verified that the air coming out of the vent was the temperature to be expected.

My main problem is that during our hot season (June through august) it is impossible to get the home cooler than 78 degrees during the day, usually cant get it down to 74 until 10pm or so.

What can I do (other than buying a larger ac unit) to get the house to stay cooler during the day
