My brother-in-law sells ACs and can give me a good deal on a replacement unit for our outdoor compressor, which developed leaks all over the place last summer and needs to be replaced. We found one or two guys in town that have said they would be willing to install it, but I'm curious what rates might be reasonable for this job. I would have the unit, and they would just install it. Any idea on how long a job like that would take and what it would cost? What if he also replaced the air handler in the attic? (Another thing I can get from my brother-in-law.) The handler is some kind of older model that an HVAC person last summer told me isn't supported anymore. But it seemed to be working fine.
