Hey all, so in this god awful humid heat my ac has stopped working, resulting in my sweating through my clothes in my sleep. I'm extremely broke, so even a lot of second hand units are out of the price range, and sadly no free ones like I got this one for last year (because of a leak issue I fixed)
Anyhow I measured it and it draws up to 30 amps, then drops to 1.7, clearly the compressor isn't running as it normally peaked at 17 amps then settled at 8.
The compressor itself is extremely hot and up until a couple days ago this thing was artic cold.
I have a smaller starting capacitor which is rated at 150 microfarads, but it's physically much smaller, and it's also electrolytic, not the metal can style.
The capacitor in the compressor is only 60 microfarad, so I'm wondering if there's risk of the smaller one blowing up. It would at first be to test it and see if the capacitor is shot (measures fine on my meter but I don't have a proper capacitor tester), but if it does work and would be fine to put in I'd be ridiculously happy.
