So here are the basics:
- We are new homeowners and the house is 2 stories ~ 1100 sq ft + basement.
- House was built in the 30s and is solid brick w/radiant heating
- The roof is part shingled over the master bed at front of house with no attic access
- Rest of the house is flat roof (no attic)
- We are east-facing, so our room is a sauna in the morning
- 3 bedrooms (Master in front/east, middle, and rear/west)
Current priority is to ensure the master is cooled and the middle bedroom (which will eventually be baby's room) is cooled, as well as the main floor (which is open concept).
- 1. Attic pack system, which would sufficiently cool master+baby room and front part of main floor, but the rear part (west facing = evening sun + kitchen) would not get the direct air, but only the overflow from the ceiling vent closer to the front
- 2. 1 ductless unit upstairs to cool the whole house - while obviously the cheapest, this is not ideal since we wouldn't be able to shut doors
- 3. Ductless split - 2 indoor units - 1 in master, 1 in hallway upstairs to cool the main floor and upstairs and installing an "air mover" to get cool air to baby's room
- 4. Ductless split - 3 indoor units - 1 in master, 1 in baby room, 1 on main floor
If we go with ductless, we have been told Mitsubishi are the best, but another guy said Daikin are right up there with Mitsubishi, but offer a better warranty so he recommends Daikin.
Also, we'd like to integrate the system to work with an ecobee3 - not sure if one brand is recommended over another for this and/or if this is even possible.
Any and all opinion are greatly appreciated! Thank you Reddit!
