Can't find where air return vent goes.

My 1500sq ft house is 60 years old. the duct work is original, or at least many decades old. My furnace is on the ground floor. The intake vent splits into 2 paths. One vent goes out horizontally, through the crawlspace, It travels about 15 feet to a single return grill on the first floor of the house. The other vent goes up into the ceiling into the second floor, or so it seems.

There are no intakes on the second floor. There is 1 vent in each of the 3 rooms plus a bathroom and they all put air out, none of them suck air in. So, the question is, where does that other intake vent go? I swear I searched the whole house for another intake and I just can't find it. I know it's a difficult problem to solve without seeing the house, but maybe I'm just overlooking something?
