My upstairs AC went out and I knew it was the capacitor, but I've been crazy busy lately so I called a company to come out and do it for me. Normally I would do stuff like this myself, but I just have not had the time with all the rest of my projects lately. The day before the tech came out, my downstairs AC didn't seem to be working. The suction line (IIRC) was covered in frost, checked the filter and it was quite dirty. When the tech came out to look at my upstairs AC, he seemed rather friendly so I had him check the downstairs AC, since he was here. I assumed the issue was with low flow from the blower since the filter was dirty. He hooked up his gauges, struggled with it for a while and mumbled something about how the numbers didn't seem right. After a while he went upstairs and apparently found something that was keeping the blower from running. I watched him do this part and indeed the blower wasn't working. At this point I am thinking the only issues I had were low flow over the evap coil on the one AC and a bad cap on the other.
All was well and fine, until he mentioned that he had put 2lbs of R22 in. I thought this was a little odd as he didn't weigh the bottle nor did he measure any temperatures before adding freon.
Now I am a little worried that the system might be overcharged, which I know can damage the compressor. Any experts want to chime in? Thanks!
