Installing Ecobee PEK shortout my board

Tried to install the Ecobee and needed to do the power extender, which is needed if there isn't a C wire. Well i think i shorted out the board as the AC or the Heat doesn't work anymore, and there was a bit of a burnt smell from the board area.

The board is a older Honeywell ST9101, which doesn't have a fuse, and figured I could replace it now with a ST9120U with a fuse.

Before I do that, is there a way i can check (with Multimeter) that it is the board that is out and not something else?

I also have a Zone controller, with the Ecobee PEK, should it be installed at the zone controller board or at the control board? The thermostat wires in there are a mess and hard to decipher.
