Coleman Rooftop AC killing camper power

We replaced the old AC on our Shasta with a lightly used, albeit old, Coleman 6799. We didn't have a controller for the Coleman so I just used some wiring diagrams to rig the Coleman AC to the old AC's controller. All of the fan speeds work, however if you try turning the AC from Fan mode to Cool mode, the lights dim out and the fan goes off. Is it possible that something other than the compressor is broken/shorting?

The camper is hooked up to a house thats a few hundred feet away via 4 long extention cords. My friend says that the compressor shouldn't draw enough power for that to be an issue, but I'm not convinced. Thoughts? If you want I can link more wiring diagrams and stuff.

As a sidenote, whoever put the AC in bypassed the breaker so the AC's power doesn't go through a breaker.
