I've been having issues this winter with the furnace having to shut down (I'm assuming from the high limit switch being tripped) and then the fan runs for a while before the furnace can kick on again.
I thought the filter might be dirty so I replaced it with a brand new one and that seemed to work for a few days, the furnace was still shutting down from time to time but it wasn't nearly as bad.
Today though the thermostat has barely been able to keep the house at 70 degrees (I have it set for 73.) The outside temperate has been around 15 degrees F all day. Is it possible the furnace just can't keep up with it being so cold outside?
The house is about 20 years old and is pretty well insulated, I can't say for sure how well but I can see about 10 inches of insulation in the attic.
I would have thought a furnace could keep up until the outside temperature started nearing the 0 degrees mark.
