Basement AC Ductwork - No Insulation?

We have floor vents and ductwork for heating. The basement (unfinished walkout) with the humidifier and condensate pump I have running 24/7 stays at 40% humidity. Sometimes it creeps up to 45% but don't think it ever shows even 50%. I want to get a separate humidity detector since I imagine my humidifier (as well reviewed as it was) might not be 100% accurate.

This is in NY, it can get pretty humid outside. However, it was 90 degrees yesterday and basement was still nice and cool and 40% humidity.

Anyway, we got central AC installed this winter and will be running it soon.

The HVAC guys did mention that we COULD get condensation on the pipes if we don't insulate the ductwork but they couldn't be certain.

Should I be worried?

My thoughts were that if it was humid enough down there to cause condensation that the issue was less the lack of insulation but more that the humidity in the basement was too high. The insulation is just a bandaid solution to the real issue.

Any and all advice appreciated. Thanks!

Also, I do want to spend time in the basement once I clean it up a bit. It's unfinished but redoing the concrete floors and painting and lighting will be fine for some things. I'd suspect leaving the ducts bare will allow for the heating or cooling to also impact the basement marginally. Why not help keep the basement cooler in summer or warmer in the winter through some "loss" from the uninsulated ductwork?
