I have (2) eight year old LG PTACS in my home, both of which I've had success with regular maintenance. For winter prep, I sealed the exterior grilles off to block cold air from coming in. I've done it this way for three years now. I rarely used the heaters during this winter, and never the AC mode, of course.
It hit 90F today, so I pulled them both out, cleaned the fins and rear area with the AC cleaning foam, followed by a water spray. Plugged them in and set the temp to 60F. Fans came on and after 5 minutes I heard the pump sound kick in which assume is a condensor because cool air started to blow, but only for a few minutes. Then it turned to hot air. This happens on both units.
These are model LG - LP150HED-Y8's, with the small rear vent doors open, and dip switches set to "cooling only mode". I also tried the same test but with programming for "cooling+electric+heater", with same result. I assume that a sensor is bad and its reading interior temp as too low? Or maybe some of the spray water shorted a circuit? However, I think the odds of both units failing like this at the same time are low. Any advice?
