How should I direct air with this window fan?

I am in a small home in the Bay Area (so hot days, cool nights, typically not very humid).

It has been hitting 90 in the day, and I want to cool the house down as quickly as possible at night when the sun goes down. So I bought this Holmes window fan. Each fan can be independently set to suck air into the house, or blow air out.

I have screens on the windows, and can fit this snuggly in one of them. So I set it in...but then what?

  • Do I have both fans set to suck air out of the house while a window in another room is open to have the cool air flow in?

  • Do I just have the fan suck cool air in from outside and have another window open so the hot air gets pushed out?

  • Do I set one side's fan to suck air in, and the other to blow it out?

Not quite sure how to operate this effectively given our conditions. Also, is this something that can potentially cool off the house by creating a cross-breeze with the pressure differential? Or is it really too small to do more than a single room?
