I'm looking to replace my split AC unit I'm located in the central valley of California (Bakersfield, specifically) where its common to have 100+ degrees almost all summer. The house is about 2,200 sq. ft. with vaulted ceilings throughout. I'm under the impression that is unit is the original from when the house was built in 1999/2000. Its a 4ton 10 seer split unit. The quotes I've been getting are for a 5 ton since they all say its undersized. How can they prove it? and is 9k too much? how much would materials and equipment cost for a job like this? I want to know how much I'm paying for labor and expertise? We all got to eat but I want to make sure I'm not getting hosed. 1 hour heating and air quoted me 15k lolz
