My current HVAC system is around 25 years old and is on its last leg. However, it's surprisingly efficient... (my electrical bill is below $200 in the summer, which isn't bad for New Orleans, LA). I'm not expecting ground breaking savings for this upgrade. I'm mainly concerned about reliability/comfort.
Option 1
-
3 Ton Lennox ACX 14.2 Single Stage + furnace + all new ducting
-
$8697.04 (after Costco discount of 12%)
Option 2
-
3 Ton Lennox XC16S Two Stage + furnace + all new ducting
-
$10,488.04 (after Costco discount of 17%)
New Orleans is humid year round, so humidity control of a two stage system sounds nice. The existing system is a 3.5 ton condenser with a 4 ton coil. The tech suggested downsizing to 3 tons, which I think will help even with humidity for the single stage system.
Is a two stage system (plus 16 seer vs 14 seer) worth $2000? Is the tech established and reliable? Could it add value if I sell the house in the next 5 years?
Thanks for the help.
