Morning all, we're placing a whole house fan on our main floor of a ranch style home with a matching footprint basement. The house constantly had an issue at night where the temperature outdoors is 15 degrees cooler than indoors and small fans on windows don't suffice. I've done the math on attic venting and we have plenty due to soffits and an existing attic fan port.
My question is location. This is ideally to cool bedrooms, which are in the far end of the house. I'd like to place the fan at the entrance to the hallway which feeds the bedrooms, but there is an 18" entryway header which I'm worried may impede airflow:
Should I locate the fan on the other side of that header, in the hallway? I'd like to use it as a sound buffer, but if it traps air it will defeat the purpose.
