Hey, Just wondered if anyone has any experience with Enbridge and having a gas main extended for a house in Ontario.
I have a request in with Enbridge to install a main extension on my street since we are converting from electric baseboard to a gas furnace (and other appliances). Our house is in the middle of the street and unfortunately the main comes in from the North and the South and the Southern line stops approx 4 meters from our property line.
I had always expected to have to pay for some portion of the extension but when the quote came in from them for a 5 meter extension it required over $18,000.00 in contribution from me. The overall project cost they say is over $24,000.00 which seems very high to me considering they claim it was likely a half a day job (although they did inform me that I must pay a full day labour costs for any job)
I have been given the run around with telling me that all construction projects have variances that can lead to higher costs but they have not been able to provide any specifics and I have escalated this several times over 6-8 weeks. As well even the Enbridge employee who gave me the quote told me it was 3 times higher per meter then they have ever seen.
Anyway just wondered if this number seems odd to anyone else or if anyone has any suggestions or people to contact regarding this since the usual escalation route seems to get me little to no valuable information and winter is coming :)..... albeit a little bit away.
