The hvac tech came, turned the blower's axle one time and told me it was busted; that I needed to replace the entire blower unit(motor/controller/enclosure). Suggested that it would be at least 1k and I should probably replace the entire 20yo HVAC 2.5t system for a new one........ I am still waiting on them to call me back with pricing on repair vs replace.
With time to waste, I took to google and quickly realized I was not alone /s
So I double checked that the pump was kicking on if the tank was full of water. yup still works. Not sure how to check the other shut-off triggers(fire) but those are inside the ducts, so I doubt they suddenly trigger for no reason.
So I pulled the blower assembly out.
I spun the fan attached to the motor by hand, considering the size of the motor, it seemed to spin just fine.
I pulled the variable speed controller module off. The usual culprit was not burned out and still in it's dedicated place on the board.
I measured the resistance between all three leads that plug into the controllerboard attached to the blower, the results were identical....according to YT, that means there is no short in the copper spools of the motor.
I pulled the board from the enclosure, and I noticed that there are some burn marks on the rubber that seals the components attached to the enclosure. As well as some on the area where the RED wire is soldered to the removable board. (circled in red)
This makes me think that I in fact only need a new controller board for the motor....but that is still $400.
Before I spend that, not knowing for sure that this is the issue, I would appreciate if someone could provide some feedback on the above.
