I live in the Toronto, Canada area and am the owner of a Waterfurnace 5 series. It's about 2.5 years old.
My thermostat is location in a hallway (top of stairs going towards basement) that is completely void of airflow due to the door to the basement always being closed. Because of this, my auxiliary heat will kick in after being at stage 2 for half an hour purely because the heat can't get to it in time. Stage 2 will run for half an hour, then the aux kicks in and just blasts heat (making everywhere super hot) and eventually it'll hit the sensor after about another half hour with the auxiliary on. It overshoots the temperature in the end by about 4 or 5 degrees.
What I'd like to do is install an outdoor sensor on my thermostat (model: Waterfurnace TP32U03) to lockout the aux until it gets below a certain temperature. The problem I'm having is finding anything on where to get one. The manual for the thermostat clearly shows the part number of the outdoor sensor but no where sells them. Honeywell offers an outdoor sensor for ~$30 on Amazon (https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B000979ERY/). Can I use any outdoor sensor or do I have to actually use the waterfurnace one?
For the past 2 winters our average electricity bill has been $900/month while our average summer electricity bill is $350/month. I'd assume the issue is the aux kicking it too much.
