I just purchased my first home last year and one of the reasons we selected this particular home is because the AC/Heat Pump was brand new. I have very little knowledge of HVAC.
It was very chilly today so I went to turn the heat on for the first time since last year and was sad to discover that it doesn't seem to work. It turns on and blows cold air for about 40 seconds and then turns off. After another 5 minutes or so, it does the same thing again.
The troubleshooting I've done thus far; 1) checked the breakers, both by the unit itself and the one at the main circuit breaker and flipped them all on and off, and 2) put new batteries in the thermostat as it seems to be what is causing the heat to turn off (I hear the thermostat click before it turns off...).
Does anyone have any ideas that I try before I call a technician? I am reluctant to do so because we also had an air conditioning issue in the summer that was simply fixed by changing the batteries in the thermostat- I don't want to waste money if it is something I can easily fix...
I really appreciate any help you can offer. Thank you so much in advance.
