I've had a Nest thermostat (2nd gen) for a few years now and have been pretty happy with it. We recently replaced our AC unit with a Bryant / Carrier 16 SEER / 3 Ton system (going by the invoice), and the salesman who came out made a big deal about how Nest sucks and what you really need is this Honeywell 8000 thermostat.
I'm at a bit of a loss. According to this guy, one of the main reasons why "Nest sucks" is because it doesn't have humidity sensors or allow for humidity control. But after doing some research, it looks like that's only true for the earlier versions? My Nest gives me a readout for inside temperature and humidity.
Here's part of an email he just sent me:
"The Honeywell 8000 thermostat is required for this system because it controls the advanced dehumidification available in the 16 SEER system you purchased. Your existing NEST thermostat has your 16 SEER system working on temperatures only and will not control the advanced dehumidification features."
Is this true - or is he bullshitting me into buying something I don't need?
