Recently purchased a townhouse with force air HVAC. The system has a Trane Perfect Fit EAC. When I moved in I found the prior owners only used a 1" filter in the main intake on the main floor and had removed the EAC cells and pre-filter. Now my question is what would be the best thing for me moving forward? I would like to use the EAC the cells look like they are in good condition besides being dirty. I've read some mixed opinions, some say just replace the cells with a 5" pleated filter others say use the EAC.
If I do use the EAC cells or a 5" pleated should I use just a 1" pre-filter at the EAC box or should I use the 1" upstairs at the intake, or should I have both??
