Question concerning R8 heat rating.

I have some ducting used for heating purposes. The hottest it ever gets is just barely below "too hot to touch with bare hands". The link at the end of this post is for insulated tubing with a R8 rating.

What I want to do is yank out the plastic interior tubing and just wrap the fiberglass insulation around the ducting to insulate heat and dampen noise.

Would this be safe since I removed the interior plastic tube? And since it wouldn't be seeing any flames, and just sitting over a warm/hot metal duct tube, would there be any issues?

Thanks in advance for any replies!
