Turned on my AC for the first time (since last summer) today and a few hours later I noticed no cold air coming through my vents and frost on the outdoor refrigerant suction line. So I did some troubleshooting/YouTubeing and here's what I found:
- When the thermostat is set to cool, the outdoor condenser fan runs.
- When I turn the thermostat off, the contactor switch remains stuck on.
- When I cut the power the furnace/AC, the contactor switch releases.
- When I turned on the fan only, there was drainage out of the condensate discharge.
My YouTube/Google research has told me that there are 2 causes of this problem. #1 Airflow, and #2 Freon.
1 - The condensor plate appears to be free of obstruction. However, I did just had my furnace replaced, and with it I got upgraded to a MERV filter (from the middle tier Home Depot filter). Could that alone be a cause of restricted airflow?? And could I put in a "regular" filter into the large MERV case/housing to test this theory? Otherwise nothing has changed since we ran the AC last.
2 - SOL, I'm calling the HVAC guy.
Any thoughts would be much appreciated!
