Apprentice vs fan motor: part 2

A while ago I took on a side job for a friend, and approached it unprofessionally, getting ridiculed a bit by techs. I took your advice, and I went on to do my own research. Here's my updated symptoms, I've reached a diagnosis and I'd like your opinion on additional components/outliers etc to check.

Unit energizes indoor fan in cooling mode, kicks off on thermal overload after 30 seconds, every time consistently. Cycle will continue without fan. I do not have a meter for capacitors, so I replaced run cap to no avail. (No big deal, 6 bucks) I borrowed a clamp-ampmeter from a buddy, and my running amps are at 4.4a consistently. The motor is rated for 5 LRA so that didn't set off any flags to me. I asked my teacher and he told me to check for play in the shaft. He also taught me how to ohm it out. I plan to do that tomorrow as well as hook the motor up straight to line voltage, to see if it still kicks off. I believe that it's the indoor fan motor. What're your thoughts and opinions? What would you do differently? What would you check?
