Does the clothes dryer in my apartment affect the room temperature?

I'm most certain that this is a ridiculous doubt, but someone kept telling me that our house cools up when the dryer's running even though the thermostat is set to a particular temperature. Does that really happen? If it does, could you please explain how and why? Thanks.
