Help with dual climate and 3 floors

Hello all,

I would appreciate any advice on my conundrum. So my house has three floors.

The first floor has it's own furnace and AC. I keep this floor heated to about 71 degrees.

The 2nd and 3rd floors share a furnace and AC via a damper.

There is a thermostat on each floor.

Problem: I stay on the second floor. We keep the temp at approx. 72 degrees. We're in the Northeast so this keeps the heat running (not AC). When this temp is set on the 2nd floor, the 3rd floor where our guests will be staying (with no AC/heat) going on it, gets to about 78 degrees. This will be way too warm for them.

Maybe this is really stupid, but is the best solution that I run the AC on the 3rd floor and the heat on the 2nd and hope that the system is smart enough to work the damper in coordination with the furnace versus just AC?
