It has dropped to 1F today and I noticed my furnace not reaching the set temp of 71F this morning. After watching it throughout the day I can only assume the furnace is hitting its heat limiter.
When we moved into the house last month the flippers didn't have a filter that was the correct size for the opening, which is about 25"x16"x6"~7". We put a new filter in last month, a 25x16x5 with a MERV of 13. I pulled the filter out slightly from the box to allow some more air flow for 20 or 30 minutes and saw the air flow from the vents become much better. The furnace also reached the right temp and was able to shut off for some time before turning back on.
I'm hesitant to call an HVAC tech as the last visit was quite costly relative to what was done...is it just a pipe dream that replacing the filter with a MERV 8 could give me enough flow before picking up the phone?
