Hi, I hope someone will be able to help out!!
A few days ago, the blower motor in my inside HVAC unit died. FH Furr came out to troubleshoot, and they quoted me $1,100 to replace it. Later, my wife did some research, and found that motors only cost around $100, so we figured we would try and do it ourselves.
I took the old motor to the only HVAC supply store that was open on a Saturday, and using a reference sheet, we were unable to find a motor that they carried that was a "perfect match" to the old one. I got one that matched all of the specs (1/3 hp, 208/300v), and brought it home (they didn't have the right capacitor, so still looking for that).
Now that we've mounted the new motor, we noticed that there are a lot of extra wires. The old motor only had 5 connections - 2 to the capacitor, a ground wire, and a red and black wire to the...wire box (unsure of name, but there are pictures in the link).
My question is this: can I just put a wire nut on the unused (red, black, and yellow) wires and just tie them out of the way? I have a sinking feeling the answer is no, but any advice is greatly appreciated!
