Hello,
I own a 3000 sq ft single family residence in Massachusetts. My oil-fired boiler with indirect water heater is original to the house (1988) and has 6 zones including the indirect. Natural gas is not an option. My current Utica boiler still works fine, but given we just recently moved in and plan on being here a while, I'd like to take advantage of the early replacement rebates offered by the state and replace my old, oversized, inefficient setup.
I've done a fair amount of research and am currently on the fence between the System 2000 or the Bederus. I am receiving quotes on both systems from reputable installers. The Bederus came in at $9900 with the G115/5 (chimney vented), 60 gallon Super Stor, Tekmar 260 outdoor reset control, with new circulator pumps, zone valves, etc. I have not received the quote back on the System 2000 but I expect it to be in the same ballpark. Heat load calcs were performed by both installers quoting me on the Bedarus and System 2000.
The 2 questions I have are: 1. Does anyone have strong opinions/recommendations one way or the other between the 2 systems? There is a lot of mixed opinions on the System 2000 out there, and truthfully, I do not know much about condensing boilers. 2. Is $9900 a fair replacement cost for my setup? I know the Bedarus is a higher-end brand and will cost more than the average; my thinking is that if I'm gonna spend the money for a replacement, I might as well do it right and get the better model. However, my oil company recommended a Dunkirk. Would I be wise to save money and get the cheaper system? Or is the Bedarus worth the extra money?
Thanks in advance. Appreciate all the knowledge and wisdom this forum has provided thus far.
