Heyyo HVAC redditors. Your help here would be greatly appreciated.
I am doing a full gut remodel on a 1860's townhouse in Lambertville NJ. Dry basement, not in flood zone, 2 floors plus a finished attic. About 1300 sq/ft. It currently has a new-ish gas tankless water heater, and hot water baseboard throughout. No AC at all.
I know its an efficient system, but we hate the look of the slantfin baseboard heaters, plus they are busted up and need to be replaced + new covers needed everywhere. And we need AC.
My question is, since we are down to studs in this house, should we just install a more conventional HVAC system that will handle AC and heat? Rip out the baseboard heating and call it a day. If so, what kind of system?
Or should we stick with the hot water baseboard, do a mini-split system for AC? Or maybe a high velocity system....
I have had a few professionals come take a look. Estimates have been all over the place. Opinions have ranged from.."your crazy for not putting in duct work while you have the chance" to "your crazy for considering ditching the efficient HWBB." Its a little overwhelming.
