A/C unit went out 1 month after closing...After the intentional decision to pass on purchasing a home warranty. Help!

I just bought a house that has 2 AC units. One is the original AC (2005) for the main floor/basement. The other one is a newer model (2014) and works for the upstairs. The older model still works but there is no cold air coming out of it when turned on. I was present when the home inspector checked the AC and took temp readings back in April before closing on the house. It freakin worked fine then! I had a company come out yesterday and they said it is completely empty of freon. They could recharge it for $500, but it would likely leak again. Of course they want to sell me a new system instead. They could isolate the leak by putting a little bit of pressure and freon in the system, but that would cost $250. Repairman estimated that it's a large enough leak (because there is ZERO pressure whatsoever), probably in the condenser, and would drive a new condenser ($2000 estimated). I am in a quandary because it makes sense that the unit needs replacing due to age. But with the enormous financial burden of just closing and numerous other expenditures for this new house, I am in damage control mode and would prefer to get another 1-2 years out of this unit if I can keep it under $1000ish. I'm hemorrhaging money as it is and I just need it to effing stop! Should I keep getting service calls to get some more quotes and diagnostics done on the unit? They are anywhere from $75-$110 from the limited shopping I've done. Or should I bite the bullet and get a damn new system and look into some kind of financing options (I might throw up even thinking about it...)? And oh by the way the repairman said my furnace is on it's way out and I should get a new one of those too. Of course he said I'd get a package deal if I got the AC and furnace together, of course! Decisions decisions!

AC stats: Lennox Merit 10ACC, 3 Ton outdoor unit. 9 or 10 seer (I don't know what that means, but it's what the repairman said)
