Hello,
Yesterday, my AC unit's fan stopped moving while the AC was on. I couldn't get it jumpstarted (it'd happened before and I opened the fuse box and it sparked and starts up again) and we had a technician come out and he discovered the compressor was shot.
The house was built in '85 and the unit is 13 years old. It is a Rheem unit that is a heat pump forced air. From what I understand, it uses the R22 refrigerant, which I know is being phased out.
Would you folks recommend just repairing the compressor or replacing the unit entirely? Money is a bit of an issue.
Thanks for any advice you might be able to provide.
