I'll need a replacement for my package unit soon, though I think it will last me fine through the summer, at least. The cheapest quotes, from reputable companies of course, are for $4800. In fact, I have 5 quotes EXACTLY at $4800, and a few more at $4800 and change, this is odd to me.
**Is there a time in the year, say September/October that replacement costs are significantly reduced?** By significantly, I mean by more than $500.
*Extra detail if interested*:
If you're wondering why I even have the option to wait, my refrigerant is 2 lbs light on a 3lb supply. Dropping from 80 F to 75 F starting at 11:30pm takes until 4 am depending on exterior humidity and temp (NC). It keeps up just fine when dropping incrementally starting at 7:30pm from 80F to 79F, then 10:15 from 79F to 78F, then midnight from 78F to 76F. The system stays on 80F from 6AM to 7:30pm. I discovered that the temperature of the air loses quality the longer the system runs consistently, so as long as I give the system a good break in between temp drops, it can recover that blowing air temp.
