Tips for AC unit in extra wide window?

I want to buy a cheap AC unit for my room (~170 sq ft), but I have a 42" window, which is more than any AC unit I found supports out of the box (if I could find one at a reasonable price that'd be great). Are there bracket extensions you can buy, 3rd party or not? My house doesn't get hot often, but those few sleepless nights and days of misery are worth a good $200-300 total IMO

Was wondering what some good options were for making your own window cover. I figure I could use a sheet of plywood (or plexiglass?), but I'm not sure how to best insulate the sides, for example. And if I toss the unit's default bracket, do i need to buy a separate support bracket that sits underneath? As far as cutting tools, all I have is a wood saw and a small amount of table space. Don't even have a vise. No clue what else I'd have to get to cut plexiglass, or if I can have someone else do it when I buy.

Wasn't sure if this was the best sub to post in, but hopefully somebody has a thought.
