Hello all. First time homebuyer here, moved into my place in May and quickly noticed the house wouldn't cool below 74/75F. The sellers purchased a 1-year home warranty (HSA) so I have HSA send out their local company. The guy tells me I have no RF-22, the A-coil is the source of the leak, and that it needs to be replaced.
Replaces it and everything is working great, for a few days, until we get to a 95F day and the house won't cool below 75F again, and I notice it's being more humid. Also, I notice the compressor outside is humming quite a bit louder than before. I call up HSA, they have the local company send their guy out again.
Guy comes and tells me that he may have over-filled the system with RF-22, pulls a little bit out, checks everything, and says that must have been it because every thing else looks great by his standards. Well I read up on-line that over-filling a system with RF-22 is normally a rookie mistake that leads to compressor failure, high humidity, and inefficient cooling. This HVAC tech told me he's been doing this for over 25 years.
Fast forward another two weeks and today, on a very humid day, once again, I'm having trouble cooling below 75F. No pipes icing over, although a lot of condensation, and the concrete platform my compressor is sitting on is completely soaked in water.
Now, keep in mind, I had a little "misunderstanding" with this company that was suddenly resolved in my favor after I got HSA involved.
What's going on here? Could my unit (17 years old) be just crapping out on me, or do I have an incompetent tech/company stringing me along? Appreciate any input.
