hi there! I'm in north Florida. House is from 1963, brick, single-story, with a crawl space.
We just bought the house and are fixing things as we come across them.
One issue is that our return grill has stripped out its holes and won't stay put.
Attached are pictures of the setup.
I'd like to build a mitred wood framing with metal screening of mesh and use a piano hinge on top with a hook clasp to secure it.
Two questions: 1: is this overboard? should I just get deeper screws or something?
2: if I do this should I put some type of weather stripping or rubber around the frame to seal it against the wall?

thanks!
