Ok guys, I'm a bit of a newbie when it comes to HVAC, however I am mechanically competent and I also know enough about electricity to get by.
I have a in room Trane water exchange heat pump.
Anyways, a few days ago, I was moving a desk when I pushed it a bit too far and wound up breaking the thermostat. I noticed as soon as it contacted it the A/C shut off. The screen cracked and it would be 100 bucks for the same stat. I popped the cover off and noticed it was only a 4 wire setup plus the common line for whatever power it needed.
So, seeing as this 'stat was overkill I went out and bought a honeywell basic 4 wire 'stat. The wires were a bit funky.
Common- "Blue" Not used. Battery powered. 24v constant- "red" To red port on stat Blower Fan- "Green" To green port on stat Heres where things get weird... A/C- "orange"- to yellow port on stat Heat-"yellow"- to white port on stat
Now when I flip on my heat the compressor kicks on the reversing valve seats and the evaporator gets warm and the vents blow warm air.
Ok good, but when the ac is switched on there is an audible click coming from the (solenoid? ) on the reversing valve but no compressor. I noticed that the contactor bridged on heat but not A/C. Also worth noting that I did do a capacitance check and its still capable of the rated 35uf.
The system is charged with refrigerant so the saftey switch should not be engaged.
This leads me to believe one of 2 things...
-
The lockout relay doesnt like something I did and is preventing the contactor from recieving the 24 vold signal
-
I have somehow wired the stat wrong.
Help would be appreciated as it will expand my knoweledge on the subject and possibly help future HVAC newbies!!
I can post pics of the unit and wiring later today if needed.
Thanks again!
