My thermostat decided to kick the bucket, so I'm in the process of upgrading my thermostat to a 5 wire. I ran new 7-wire (it was jerry rigged with a older 3-wire and 2 random wires...).
So I ended up gutting the old wiring and putting in the new 7-wire. Based off of the wiring diagram here: Wiring diag. it appears that the furnace supposed to be for a 4 wire thermostat, G Y W R. With the C and Y splitting off to go to the compressor contactor.
From my googling, it appears that "C" in most furnaces is a 24v common. My new thermostat needs a C wire, can I branch the C wire to both the compressor contactor and the thermostat in my case?
My furnace is a Rheem Criterion II. I'm a sparky/maintenance guy and do a lot of electronic work on the side, so I'm pretty comfortable with wires.
