Repair or Replace AC and Furnace

Hi all,

You have been very informative when I have asked questions here before, and I thank you for that! You really put things into a different perspective sometimes and I may need that now.

Today my wife and I woke up to a warm house. Upon inspecting the inside AC unit, I found that the lines were frozen solid. The outside unit was also frozen. I turned everything off and got a tech out to diagnose the problem. He replaced a capacitor on the inside unit and all is working well. He stated that I also had a small leak at the compressor and can really only be repaired by replacing the condenser and that the valve is basically holding in the refrigerant.

Here's the problem. It's a 13 year old R-22 Goodman system that has a gas furnace. Just adding refrigerant is going to be expensive. Do you think it's time to look into a new unit or should I continue putting money into fixing it?

I'd appreciate the help and insight.

Thanks!
