Honeywell thermostat swap

Greetings. I currently have the very basic Honeywell non-programmable thermostat (TH5220D1029 is my best guess), which is currently wired up like this (http://i.imgur.com/PUJn2sI.jpg). I just purchased the WiFi 7-day programmable (RTH6580WF) and was hoping a simple face swap would be possible, but the new model appears to have an extra connector for K (http://i.imgur.com/nkTvSBH.jpg), which isn't used as per the manual. The other connectors seem to align up to the old one, but it appears the swap does not work. There's no where for the K connector to connect into the old plate. The fan control works, but no heat is coming out. Will I need to rewire the existing wires into the new plate, so that the K connector has a place to go (even though unused)?
