Hey Reddit, noob here, would love some input! I have 2 trane multistage electric split systems installed in a 2 story house, both of which had all the ductwork replaced by a company. Immediately after the install (the day they cut the AC back on), I noticed the downstairs outside unit making a loud blowoff sound, almost like a turbo, intermittently and up to several times an hour. Fan constantly running in the cold. I contacted the company that did the ductwork and after one of their techs came out, they diagnosed it as a failed valve (the one that meters the refrigerant as he explained, I'm assuming the TXV valve after some googling).
Shortly after the ductwork install (and before I called and got the tech to come out) one of their quality assurance people came out to do an inspection and noted that there may have been a rewiring issue on behalf of their ductwork team. While QA was there I mentioned the weird blowoff sound and was told it was normal for such cold weather. As for the rewiring issue an appointment was set but I was out of town when they came by. After that I contacted the company about the blowoff sound issue and it was then that I got the official valve failure diagnosis.
Is there any possible way a wiring issue could cause a TXV to fail? A short due to bad rewiring? Is there any possible way a botched ductwork job could cause valve failure? I know they had to cut and possibly drain the refrigerant line at some point? The tech who came out said they are totally unrelated and that valves just give out sometimes. Which I could understand, stuff goes bad. But could there be any relation in this instance? I am not ruling out the possibility of coincidence but I am also not excited about spending just north of a grand. Thanks in advance!
