Heat pump installation under a deck?

Hello. My parents are about to have a Daikin Aurora heat pump installed at their 2 story house. My dad and I have been reading about heat pumps for a very long time, and the estimator and installer for the company that's doing the work is giving us recommendations that seem completely counter to what we've read.

We have a deck on posts that is several feet above the ground in the back of the house. This is the side of the house that gets the most sun.

Our thoughts were to have the heat pump installed on top of the deck, with the inside unit several feet away and going into the house. (We accounted for the minimal rise and run that the lines need). The deck is acoustically isolated from the house.

The estimator and the installer both want to install the heat pump under the deck. From what we've read, this is a big no-no because it can create a micro climate that makes the heat pump work less efficiently. I live in NE North America, and there's also snow drifts to consider. As far as defrost cycles go, having this in the shade under the deck seems to be a bonehead idea as well.

I'm not an HVAC expert by any means, I've just read basic material related to heat pumps that indicates this is a bad idea. Am I missing something? I'd love to hear your comments. Thank you very much!
