Until recently I had never heard of Grandaire. A new property management company is suggesting we start using these for replacement units. The apartments are 30-40 years old so there is a decent amount of replacements needed, and there is not one type of unit on the property currently that we could just decide to stick with. On top of that there is the whole issue of upgrading to the 410A systems, which makes repairing the R22 units challenging. At most other properties we use Goodman units, and have never had any problems.
Normally I wouldn’t really care, but the new units they are recommending are a bit more expensive ($100-$200 more for each part, and the whole system is about $300 more). Is Grandaire a better unit? Goodman seems to be pretty standard in this industry, and these are inexpensive apartment units not custom homes or something. Is there any reason I would want to go with the more expensive unit, or am I better off sticking with Goodman, which has worked well for me in the past?
